The following sections describe how to submit database inquiry request for the Pesticide and Veterinary Drug MRLs and receive the resulting output in a selected output format over the Internet.

(a) Inquiry Parameter Selection:

• From the list boxes, select the Pesticide and Commodity parameters to define your database select statement.

• You can only select one option for one of the two parameter lists.

  (e.g. if you select one option for pesticides, "ALL" is automatically

  selected for commodities)

(b) Commodity Groups and Aggregates

• Commodity Group names are displayed in upper-case and followed by the symbol "> ". Commodity Group selections returns the data for the components of the group as well as the group aggregate figure.

• Comodity Aggregate names are displayed in upper-case and followed by the symbol "+ ". Aggregate selections return only the aggregate figure for the item selected.

(c) Long Descriptive Names and Definitions of Commodities and Aggregates

• Above the inquiry parameter list boxes are reference data links to pesticide and commodities reference table data. The tables display the long descriptive name, the internal DB code and Codex Alimentarius (CA-code) when different from internal code.

Submit Inquiry Button - When entered the database query definition is submitted for execution.

Reset Button - When entered clears all extraction parameter selections.

Change Data Collection Button - When entered displays the Data Collection Page where another data collection may be selected for query.

Perform the following steps to configure your spreadsheet to view extraction's CSV files with the Netscape Browser v.2.0:

• Go to Options on the Netscape Menu Bar
• Select General Preferences
• Select Helpers tab
• Select File Type "text/comma-separated-values"
• Choose Action to take when CSV files are selected:
  • Save to Disk - Will save CSV files directly to your default Working File.
  • Prompt User - Will prompt the user to Save to Disk or Configure a Viewer Application
  • Launch Application - Defines Application to launch when CSV files are selected.
• To Launch Your Spreadsheet Application -
  • Click on the Browse Button
  • Find your Spreadsheet PC Directory and Select the Spreadsheet .EXE program
  • Click OK button

Next time you click on the CSV file, your spreadsheet program will automatically start up and read in the CSV file.

Note that the automatic launching of the spreadsheet applications is not possible in DOS. DOS users should save their files to disk and open them from within their Spreadsheet.

Netscape will automatically save files to the default Netscape Working Directory if the user does not override the default by selecting another directory.

At FAO, The Netscape default save directory is the Working Directory in the Netscape Icon Properties. To change the installation setting (c:\usr\netscape) perform the following steps.

• Go Into Program Manager
• Select the Netscape Icon
• Go to File on Menu Bar
• Select Properties
• Change the Working File to the PC directory of your choice (i.e. c:\usr\csv\)
