Description:Includes prepared or composite dishes in which additives are directly added to the composite food. Additives may also be present as a result of carry-over from the ingredients. For example, an additive that is used as an ingredient in a meat pie, but not in any of its ingredients (e.g., in the crust) is reported in this category. Examples of composite dishes include: dehydrated culinary products which may contain processed vegetables or animal ingredients and spices, to be reconstituted with water before cooking, prepared dinners (e.g., frozen entrees), casseroles, mincemeat and snack dips (e.g., onion dip).
This page provides information on the food additive provisions that are acceptable for use in foods conforming to the food category.
