The Ad Hoc Working Group on Establishment of Codex Priority Lists of Pesticides led by Australia will meet in Taj Palace Hotel at 10.00 hours on Saturday 17 April and the Ad Hoc Working Group on Methods of Analysis led by The Netherlands will meet in Taj Palace Hotel on Tuesday 20 April 2004 at 11.00 hours.


ANNOTATIONS TO THE PROVISIONAL AGENDA


Item 1
Adoption of the Agenda 
In accordance with Rule V.1 of the Rules of Procedure, the first item on the Provisional Agenda shall be the adoption of the Agenda.
Item 2
Appointment of the Rapporteurs
In accordance with Rule II.5 and established practice, the Committee will nominate rapporteurs as necessary.
Item 3
Matters Referred to the Committee by the Codex Alimentarius Commission and/or Other Codex Committees
The Committee will consider matters referred to it by the 26th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission and Codex Committees that met since the 35th Session of the Committee. Document CX/PR 04/2 to be prepared by the Codex Secretariat

Report on General Considerations by the 2003 Joint FAO/WHO Meetings on Pesticide Residues (JMPR):
The Committee will consider Section 2 of report items on general consideration by the 2003 JMPR which have certain implications for the work of the Committee.

GEMS/FOOD Progress Report of Dietary Intakes
The paper (CX/PR 04/3) on this issue to be provided by WHO.
Item 6
Dietary Exposure in Relation to MRL Setting: - Discussion Paper on the Adoption of Probabilistic Methodology for the Purpose of the Codex MRLs Setting: 
At the request of the 35th Session of the CCPR, the document CX/PR 04/4 to be prepared by The Netherlands with assistance of their drafting partners.
Item 7
Draft and Proposed Draft Maximum Residue Limits for Pesticides in Foods and Feeds at Steps 7 and 4
This item includes consideration of Draft and Proposed Draft MRLs at Step 7 and 4 of the Codex Procedure, revocation of existing MRLs, combined lists of MRLs for certain sets of related pesticides. The document CX/PR 04/5 containing data base for MRLs to be prepared by the Codex Secretariat and CX/PR 04/5-Add.1 containing comments submitted at Steps 6 and 4 to be prepared by the Codex Secretariat of The Netherlands.

Risk Analysis Policies Used by the Committee in Establishing MRLs for Pesticides
At the request of the last session of the Committee, the paper outlining the risk analysis policies used in establishing Codex MRLs for pesticides to be prepared by the Chairperson of Committee (document CX/PR 04/6).
Item 9
Matters Related to Methods of Analysis for Pesticide Residues: (to be considered by the Ad Hoc Working Group):
(a)
Proposed Draft Guidelines on the Use of Mass Spectrometry (MS) for Identification, Confirmation and qualitative Determination of Residues at Step 4 
The Committee is invited to discuss the above Guidelines approved as new work by the 26th session of the Commission to be prepared by the FAO/IAEA Training and Reference Centre with cooperation of drafting partners. Government comments will be incorporated into document CX/PR 04/7-Add.1 to be prepared by the Codex Secretariat of The Netherlands.
(b)
Proposed Draft Guidelines on the Estimation of Uncertainty of Results at Step 4
The Committee is invited to discuss the above Guidelines approved as new work by the last session of the Commission and prepared by the FAO/IAEA with cooperation of drafting partners (document CX/PR 04/8). Government comments will be incorporated into document CX/PR 04/8-Add.1 to be prepared by The Netherlands.

Proposed Draft Revision of the List of Methods of Analysis for Pesticide Residue Analysis at Step 4
The document CX/PR 04/9 to be prepared by The Netherlands.
Item 10
Establishment of Codex Priority Lists of Pesticides
The elaboration of the priority list corresponds to Step 1 of Codex Elaboration Procedure for Codex MRLs. The Committee will consider a paper CX/PR 04/10 prepared by Australia based on proposals received in response to CL 2003/15-PR as well as the Proposed Revised Criteria for Prioritization Process of Compounds for Evaluation by JMPR to be prepared by Australia in cooperation with the Codex Secretariat (document CX/PR 04/11)

Proposed Pilot Project for the Examination of National MRLs as Interim Codex MRLs for Safer Replacement Pesticides
At the request of the last Session of the Committee and with the approval of the 26th Session of the Commission the revised paper to be prepared by the United States of America and their drafting partners (Document CX/PR 04/12).
Item 12
Discussion Paper on the Consideration of Elaboration of MRLs for Spices 
Following the decision of the 35th Session of the Committee, a paper CX/PR 04/13 to be prepared by South Africa with their drafting partners.
Item 13
Discussion Paper on the Revision of the Codex Classification of Foods and Animal Feeds - The Committee will be invited to consider a paper CX/PR 04/14 to be prepared by the Netherlands and their drafting partners.
Item 14
Discussion Paper on the Establishment of MRLs for Processed or Ready-to-eat Foods
At the request of the last session of the Committee a paper (document CX/PR 04/15) to be prepared by the United States.
Item 15
Other Business and Future Work 
In accordance with Rule V.5 of the Rules of Procedure, any Member of the Commission after dispatch of the Provisional Agenda may propose the inclusion of specific items in the Agenda with respect to matters of an urgent nature. The Committee may propose to undertake new work, which shall be in compliance with the Medium Term Plan and subject to the approval by the Commission.

Date and Place of Next Session
The Committee will be advised of the venue and the tentative dates of the next meeting.
Item 17
Adoption of the Report
In accordance with Rule VIII of the Rules of Procedure and established practice, the Committee shall adopt the report of its 36th Session, based on a draft provided by the Secretariat.
