NOTES ON THE PROVISIONAL AGENDA

Item 1 Adoption of the Agenda (CX/NEA 01/1): In accordance with Rule 10(a) of the Guidelines for the Codex Committees of the Procedural Manual, the first item on the Provisional Agenda shall be Adoption of the Agenda. The Chairperson will request the Committee to adopt the Provisional Agenda as the Agenda for the Session.

Item 2 Matters Referred by the Codex Alimentarius Commission and Other Codex Committees (CX/NEA 01/2): The Committee is invited to consider matters referred to it by the Commission or other Codex Committees.

Item 3 Report on Activities of FAO and WHO Complementary to the Work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission in the Near East Region (CX/NEA 01/3): The paper summarizes selected activities of FAO and WHO complementary to the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission being undertaken, specifically in the Region of the Near East. It also reports on activities of international bodies relevant to the FAO/WHO food standards work.

Item 4 Information and Report on the Food Control Infrastructure and the Status of Food Import/Export Inspection and Certificate in the Near East Region (CX/NEA 01/4): Member Governments and Interested Organizations are invited to report on these subjects, including progress made and constraints encountered.

Item 5 Report on Activities Related to the Harmonization of Food Legislation in the Region in Order to Promote Economic Integration (CX/NEA 01/5): Member Governments and Interested International Organizations are invited to report on the status of the above subject matter.

Item 6 Country Report on the Application of Risk Analysis in the Region (CX/NEA 01/6): Member Governments and Interested International Organizations are invited to share their experiences of the application of Risk Analysis in their countries.

Item 7 Consumers’ Participation in Food Standards Setting at the Codex and National Levels (CX/NEA 01/7): Member Governments and Interested Organizations are invited to provide information on the issue, including the ways and means of developing consumer input into National Codex Committees and Contact Points.

Item 8 Implications of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Agreements on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS) and Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) for the Region (CX/NEA 01/8): Member Governments are invited to report on the subject, including the status of the establishment and functioning of the Codex Contact Points and the National Codex Committees.

Item 9 Other Business and Future Work (CX/NEA 01/9): In accordance with Rule V.5 of the Rules of Procedure, any Member of the Commission may propose the inclusion of specific items of an urgent matter. The Committee may propose to undertake new work that shall be in compliance with the Medium Term Objectives and subject to the approval by the Commission or its Executive Committee. The following items are proposed to be included as future work of the Regional Committee:

A) Consideration of the Need for a Code of Hygienic Practice for Street-Vended Foods for the Near East Region;

B) Consideration of the Need for the Elaboration of a Regional Standard for Microbiological Levels in Foods;

C) Consideration of the Need for the Establishment of Standards for Chickpea and Favabean.

Item 10 Nomination of the Coordinator (CX/NEA 01/10): In accordance with Rule II.4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Codex Alimentarius Commission the Committee is invited to nominate a Coordinator for the Near East for appointment by the 24^th session of the Commission.

Item 11 Date and Place of the Next Session: The Committee will be advised about tentative date and venue of the next Session of the Committee.

Item 12 Adoption of the Report: In accordance with Rule VIII.1 of the Rules of Procedure, the Committee shall adopt the report of its Fourteenth Session, based on a draft provided by the Secretariat.
