NOTES ON THE PROVISIONAL AGENDA

Agenda Item 3a: Proposed Draft Working Principles for Risk Analysis

Following the request for advice of the 16th Session of the Committee on General Principles, the 24th Session of the Commission confirmed its initial mandate to the Committee to complete the principles for risk analysis within Codex as a high priority and took a position on the application of precaution within Codex. The Proposed Draft Working Principles for Risk Analysis were redrafted accordingly, circulated for comments at Step 3, and further considered by a Working Group (Paris, France, 5-7 December 2001), as recommended by the Commission. The revised text, report of the Working Group and initial comments at Step 3 are presented in CX/GP 02/3 and additional comments in CX/GP 02/3-Add.1.
Agenda Item 3b: The Application of Risk Analysis in the Elaboration of Codex Standards
The 16th Session of the Committee could not consider in detail the paper prepared by the Delegation of India due to time constraints and agreed that it would be distributed for comments and consideration by the 17th Session.
Agenda Item 3c: Consideration of the Development of Working Principles for Risk Analysis to be Applied by Governments
This Agenda Item has been included at the request of France, in application of Rule V.3. The 24th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission agreed that the Committee on General Principles "should develop guidance to governments subsequently or in parallel, as appropriate in view of its programme of work" (ALINORM 01/41, para. 74).
