NOTES ON THE PROVISIONAL AGENDA

for the Second Session of the Ad-Hoc Intergovernmental Codex Task Force on Animal Feeding,
Copenhagen, Denmark, 19-21 March 2001

Item 1 Adoption of the Agenda (CX/AF 01/1) :

In accordance with Rule V.1 of the Rules of Procedure, the first item on the Provisional Agenda shall be the adoption of the Agenda. The Committee will be invited to adopt the Provisional Agenda as the Agenda for the Session.

Item 2 Matters Referred to the Task Force from the 47th Session of the Executive Committee of the Codex Alimentarius Commission and Other Codex Committees (CX/AF 01/2):

The document is an information paper prepared by the Codex Secretariat concerning matters referred and/or of interest from the Codex Alimentarius Commission and other Codex Committees.

Item 3 Information paper compiling a list of internationally available standards and validated methods for the examination of feedingstuffs (CX/AF 01/3 and CL 2000/30-AF):

The document is an information paper prepared by the Secretariat which includes a list of internationally available standards and validated methods for the examination of feedingstuffs developed within the framework of international organizations and other fora.

Item 4 Information paper on lists established by different governments to control the use of prohibited and undesirable substances in animal feedingstuffs or other approaches (CX/AF 01/4 and CL 2000/21-AF):

At its first Session, the ad hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Animal Feeding concluded on a lack of clear definitions for additives, contaminants, by-products, wastes and other substances provisions that might be considered as prohibited or "undesirable" substances in feedingstuffs. Therefore, the Task Force agreed to request, by the means of the Circular Letter CL 2000/21-AF to Member countries, information on lists established to control the use of prohibited and undesirable substances in animal feedstuffs or other approaches. The Task Force will receive a summary of the findings issued from the open-ended meeting that is intended to be convened immediately before the second Session of the Task Force and report on comments received on this matter as well as on results of discussions outcoming from the Internet Conference that would start in January 2001.

Item 5 Consideration of the Revised Draft Code of Practice on Good Animal (CX/AF 01/5 and CL 2000/30-AF):

At its first session, held in Copenhagen in June 2000, the Task Force amended the Draft Code based on both comments received in response to the Circular Letter (CL 1999/28-AF) at Step 3 and a working paper proposed by the Chairman. The revised Draft Code has been returned to Step 3 and circulated in September 2000 through CL 2000/30-AF to governments and interested organisations. Comments have been collected in working paper(s) referenced as CX/AF 01/5(...) document(s).

Item 6 Other Business and Future Work:

In accordance with Rule V.5 of the Rules of Procedure, any Member of the Commission may propose the inclusion of specific items of an urgent matter.

Item 7 Date and Place of Next Session :

The Task Force will be advised of the tentative dates of the next session.

Item 8 Adoption of the Report:

In accordance with Rule VIII of the Rules of Procedure, the Task Force shall adopt the report of its first Session based on a draft provided by the Secretariat.

An open-ended meeting, to consider the possibilities of including either a positive list of permitted substances to be used in the preparation of animal feedingstuffs,  or a negative list of prohibited substances, as well as lists of "undesirable substances” subject to maximum limits or tolerances in the Proposed Draft Code of Practice on Good Animal Feeding, will be held at the Danish Plant Directorate, Skovbrynet 20, DK 2800 Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark at 9.00 hours on Saturday 17 March 2001.
